New Coworking Hub launches at RAF Marham

Updated: Oct 15

New coworking hub launches for the spouses and partners of Hereford Garrision.
MCN Coworking Hub at RAF Marham

A new coworking hub has been launched by the Military Coworking Network (MCN) at RAF Marham in Norfolk, now taking the current hub portfolio up to nine.

The hub, which is located outside the wire on the patch, provides professional office spaces for the spouses and partners of RAF Marham, including Naval as well as RAF squadrons that are based at Marham.

The coworking hub offers the perfect space to work, study, and build a community of like-minded people.

About the Marham Hub Launch Event

The launch event, which took place on Tuesday, 24 September, was well attended by members of RAF Marham's spousal community, who welcomed the addition of the Hub to base, not just as a place to work but also to network.

Representatives from base were also present, including Group Captain Fred Wigglesworth, the outgoing Commanding Officer (CO), Group Captain Leonie Boyd OBE, the incoming CO, and Wing Commander Alison McLean, as well as representatives from the Unit Welfare Team and the Naval Family Federation (NFF).

Group Captain Leonie Boyd OBE, the new Commanding Officer (CO), commented:

My predecessor, Group Captain Fred Wigglesworth, recognised the significant benefits that a Military Coworking Hub could provide here at Marham, and worked closely with the Military Coworking Network Team to make it a reality.
We were both delighted to be able to attend the opening of the RAF Marham Coworking Hub last week, which further enhances the facilities available to support those working and living here in Marham.
The Hub offers a welcoming and professional space, away from the dining table or spare bedroom, for spouses and partners to work, and will no doubt provide opportunities to meet new people and create new support networks within our community.

Sarah Clewes, NFF CEO remarked:

We are delighted to continue to support the Military Coworking Hub programme as it offers a great opportunity for military spouses and partners to access a service that is just for them, recognising that so many are working whilst also trying to support their serving partner and family. The Hubs offer a space for like-minded spouses and partners to meet others and work in a professional environment, often providing a much needed break from the family home!

Jenny Ward, NFF Head of Evidence and Research added:

Having worked with the RAF Marham unit staff and families for a number of years, we recognise how beneficial the new Hub will be for our non-serving spouses and partners who are part of the Marham community, and those who live in the local area too. This new facility will enhance the 'Marham offer' for families, providing a great opportunity for spouses who in the past may have struggled to get meaningful employment simply because of their location. We hope that employers will also see the benefits of supporting their staff who are part of the military community to make use of these facilities.

About the Marham Hub

The Hub, the former Thrift Shop, has been subject to a stylish makeover in MCN branded livery.

It offers members a contemporary shared office space with secure WI-FI.  There are 10 hot desks in total, spread across two shared office spaces as well as a private meeting room.

Members also have access to a colour printer, scanner, and copier, as well as screens, keyboards, and mice.

A breakout area with comfortable seating, provides a much-welcomed area where members can relax and chill with their fellow coworkers. A fully equipped kitchen with unlimited tea and coffee, as well as toilet and parking complete the available facilities.

Free hub trials are available from the website to anyone wishing to ‘try before they buy’ on a no-obligation basis.

Maria Lyle, Director, Royal Air Force (RAF) Families Federation, concluded:

We are delighted to add RAF Marham to our growing portfolio of coworking hubs, and are particularly excited by the fact that this hub serves two of the three British service branches - the Navy and the RAF, both of which have squadrons based at Marham.
We have received significant interest in this hub from the spouses and partners of RAF Marham, as well as strong support from base, and are confident of a robust membership and thriving coworking community.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to the Naval and Army Families Federations, who are helping us to raise awareness of this fantastic initiative and supporting our endeavours to make this the success it deserves to be.
A special recognition goes to the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust (AFCFT) and Ministry of Defence (MoD) who have supported and funded us, and the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA), who are working very hard with us to deliver this project.
And a final thank you goes to David Beck, Senior Social Value Business Partner at Pinnacle Group Limited, for the generous donation of IT equipment for the hub.
